Itinerary: Athens (3), Cruise (4)
Day 1
Board your overnight flight to Greece.
Day 2 – Athens
Welcome to Athens, the city of Athena. Your private bus and driver will transport you to your hotel. The rest of the day is for discovery in a land made of myths.
Day 3 – Athens
Explore this energetic city on a guided Athens City Tour. Visit the Parthenon on the Acropolis, see the Royal Palace, the National Gardens, the Temple of Athena Nike, the remains of Socrates’ Agora, the Olympic Stadium and other highlights. Savor a special Greek dinner with light entertainment in the Pláka, the city’s oldest district, with its picturesque narrow streets, alleys opening out into tiny squares, and terraces linked by steps.
Day 4 – Athens
Travel to Delphi, located high above the Gulf of Corinth, once regarded as the center of the universe, and the site of the Oracle of Delphi. A guided tour takes you through the Sanctuary of Apollo and into the Museum to see works of art excavated at the site.
Day 5 – Cruise: Mykonos
Transfer to the port of Piraeus to board your luxury cruise ship and embark on a voyage to the mythic lands of the Aegean. Mykonos is a granite island with unique windmills and brilliant whitewashed houses. Wander the winding streets, lounge on the beach, or browse in the boutiques.
Day 6 – Cruise: Kusadasi/Ephesus & Patmos
Ephesus is one of the world’s most impressive and best-restored archaeological sites. Walk the marble-paved streets and see the spectacular ruins of the Temple of Hadrian, the Library of Celsus, the house where the Virgin Mary spent her last days, and the Amphitheater where St. Paul once preached. Cruise on to Patmos, one of the smallest inhabited islands in the Aegean Sea. Optional excursions include the grotto and monastery where St. John the Divine wrote the book of Revelations.
Day 7 – Cruise: Rhodes
This island is celebrated for its natural beauty and delightful climate. But for many, the reason to visit Rhodes is the shopping. In this shopper’s paradise, look for great deals on everything from shoes, leather, jewelry, chess sets, furs, pottery and more. If shopping isn’t quite your thing, considering a donkey trek to the island’s most outstanding site, the Temple of Athena at Lindos, or cool yourself in a palace paved with marble and mosaics and stroll the same cobblestone streets that the Knights of St. John once walked.
Day 8 – Cruise: Heraklion/Crete & Santorini
Cruise on to Crete, home of the mythical King Minos and the birthplace of Zeus. In keeping with its wonderful sunshine record, a wealth of excellent beaches are situated around the island. Visit the Palace of Knossos, home of the legendary Minotaur, where King Minos imprisoned Daedalus and his son Icarus in the Labyrinth. Then cruise into a volcano’s collapsed crater and marvel at the breathtaking and dramatic beauty of the island of Santorini, believed by some to be the lost city of Atlantis.
Day 9 – Depart
Disembark and transfer to the Athens airport. Return home with new knowledge of historical treasures and grand memories of your mythical voyage.
