Also visit impressive Westminster Abbey to see Poets’ Corner with its monuments to Chaucer, Dickens, Longfellow, Hardy and other literary notables.
Day 3 – London
Join a backstage tour at the National Theatre and see one of the largest and most advanced theatres in the world. The afternoon is free to visit the art gallery of your choice. Choose from the Tate Gallery, the National Gallery, the Victoria and Albert Museum, or one of many others. Continue your curtain call adventures tonight at an exciting West End Theatre Performance.
Day 4 – Paris
Travel to France by crossing the English Channel to France via the Chunnel.
Day 5 – Paris
Bon jour! A local guide will introduce you to the magnificent “City of Light” on your Paris City Tour. See the Place de l’Opera, the Champs-Elysees, the Eiffel Tower and other highlights. Visit the Louvre, the largest museum in the world. Pay attention to the beautifully proportioned Venus de Milo because you will later try your hand at sculpture in a Clay Modeling Workshop taught by a local artist. Continue your artistic motif with dinner tonight in bohemian Montmartre, the birthplace of modern art made famous by artists such as Picasso, Renoir, Modigliani, Gauguin and van Gogh.
Day 6 – Paris
Journey to Giverny, where Claude Monet devoted himself to making a garden and painting his famous Water Lilies. Stroll through the exquisite gardens that inspired the artist and see the famous Japanese Bridge that the Impressionist master painted tirelessly. Return to Paris.
Day 7 – Paris – Florence
Transfer to the airport for your one-way flight to Florence. Welcome to Firenze, the city where the Renaissance began nearly 500 years ago. This historic center of European civilization represents the peak in Italy’s art, thought, and culture. On your City Tour, see the Piazza del Duomo with the magnificent cathedral and baptistery whose East door is Ghiberti’s Gates of Paradise, a renowned landmark of Renaissance sculpture. Also see the Piazza del Signoria, the Loggia, and the Palazzo Vecchio. Continue on to visit the Accademia to see Michelangelo’s famous sculpture David. Option: Tour the famous Uffizi, home to the collections put together by generations of the Medici family that allow you to follow the changes in Italian art from its beginnings to the 17th century. See spectacular masterpieces by Raphael, Giotto, Caravaggio and Michelangelo.
Day 8 – Florence
Expand your culinary skills at today’s Italian Cooking Class. Florence is also noted for the excellence of its cuisine. In fact, this is where Italian cooking was born, at the court of the Medici. Mangiare bene! The afternoon is free for additional explorations of this remarkable city and for shopping for bargains at the Straw Market or on the Ponte Vecchio, spanning the Arno River.
Day 9 – Depart
Return home with new skills and a fresh awareness of the art and culture of Europe.
