See Piccadilly Circus, Tower Bridge, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, Fleet Street, the Houses of Parliament, St. Paul’s and Big Ben. Continue for a tour of formidable Westminster Abbey, site of numerous royal weddings and coronations.
Day 3 – London
Explore Windsor Castle, the weekend retreat of the royal family and the largest castle in Europe still inhabited. See the Round Tower built by Henry II, St. George’s Chapel, the State Apartments and Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House. Option: Attend a West End theatre performance tonight.
Day 4 – Paris
Travel on to France via the 31-mile Chunnel under the English Channel, one of the greatest engineering marvels in history.
Day 5 – Paris
Bienvenue à Paris, the most magical city in the world! On your Paris City Tour you will see all the highlights including the Eiffel Tower, the Champs-Elysées, and l’Etoile with the Arc de Triomphe. Tour the Gothic masterpiece, Notre Dame. You’ll also visit the Louvre, the largest museum on earth, to view priceless works of art like Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, the Winged Victory of Samothrace and the Venus de Milo.
Day 6 – Paris
Tour the Palace of Versailles, home of Louis XIV, the Sun King. Walk through its fabulous galleries, including the Hall of Mirrors, where the Treaty of Versailles was signed, ending World War I. See the formal gardens, preserved in their original state with beautiful fountains, statues, paths and ornamental ponds, and the two Trianons.
Day 7 – Paris – Venice
This morning, fly to Venice and say, Buon giorno! You have arrived in the romantic city known as La Serenissima, once a mighty maritime Republic. Begin your Venice City Tour at the Piazza Roma and walk along the Grand Canal to visit St. Mark’s Basilica. Also see the Rialto Bridge, the Bridge of Sighs, and the Clock Tower, where animated statues of Moors use hammers to strike the hours. Tour the pink marble Doges’ Palace to see its elegant rooms and impressive paintings by Titian, Veronese and Tintoretto. In addition to living quarters, the palace contained offices, meeting rooms, law courts and its infamous prison cells. The city is famous for its crystal and you will also see a Murano glass-blowing demonstration near the cathedral.
Day 8 – Venice
Today is free for additional sightseeing. Option: Board a ferry for an excursion to three famous islands around the Venetian Lagoon. Visit the sleepy little fishing town of Burano, famous for introducing lace-making to the world. See master craftsmen at work in the factories in Murano and visit a 12th century cathedral.
